guy fawkes' day is not a holiday, just a celebration, of the failure of the gunpowder plot, a 17th century attempt to kill the king by blowing up the houses of parliament. guy fawkes was the ringleader; the celebrations mostly involve setting off fireworks, and having bonfires burning effigies of guy fawkes. i almost pity the guy; his role in history seems almost comic.

yeah i was very shocked when i heard the news too. i don't know anything apart from what i've already related, which was all that kunming knew. i heard from keming that the junior committee were just informed by jiao lian that there's a wake to attend, but they know even less details than we do. i guess its not something appropriate for general circulation.

it's very sobering, is it not.
